By using the Matwork's movements and Joe's philosophy of control, precision and breath, you are teaching your body comprehensive lessons of correct form, and connection that will last you a lifetime.
Your overall goal is to connect to, and form a partnership with, your body. That may mean moving in an enjoyable way to reap the benefits; feeling more supple, having better posture, increased circulation, and better energy.
Everyone comes to the Matwork with different goals. For some, lessening back pain or discomfort is their primary concern. Others want to supplement their sports and other activities and stay injury-free.
If you are working to advance to the highest Matwork level, you will need to be aware that some of the advanced exercises may not be suited to your particular body, and that's Okay. The best part of the Matwork is the exercises are progressional and build upon themselves, ie. Rolling like a Ball leads to Open Leg Rocker which leads us to the control of Teaser. The Mat exercises are designed to meet you where you are and you only need will-power to complete them once you have learned them.
Discover what feels best and perfect what you know. Some people swear by completing 'Full Roll Ups' everyday on holiday, because they know this helps them maintain a happy back/spine while travelling. Others, know that adding daily Cat/Cows help improve their spinal mobility.
You will soon discover you don't know how you ever did without the Matwork in your life
